LITT 3311 - 19TH-CENTURY AMERICAN WOMEN WRITERS |
Prerequisite: LITT 2114 and LITT 2123, or Permission of Instructor. 1700-1900 Course and Gender/Sexuality Course. In 19th-century America, most fiction was written by and for women. We will trace the development of "women's fiction" through genres including the seduction novel, conversion narrative, domestic novel and realism, and examine the complex relationship of this literature to the dominant culture of the period.
