Associated Term: Fall 2021
Levels: Undergraduate

Galloway Main Campus
Hybrid Full Schedule Type
Distance Education Hybrid Instructional Method

Learning Objectives: ***I will post the whole syllabus in Blackboard for you to view, and you will read a physical copy with me in class, so we are on the same page and see if we mesh teacher/student styles. Brief Description: My classes are fun but fair. I suggest getting the textbook and materials and ideas I posted below, as soon as possible! You only get a few attempts to pass College Writing before taking a year off to possibly try again. I pride myself on a great number of my students making it through with good numbers and a fun time with our classmates on the first go. See more on Blackboard in a few minutes after this post. See you soon and good luck. -Prof. C.
Required Materials: Textbooks/Supplies: There is a discounted purchase and rental option for the e-version of this book as well as a physical copy online. So try there first. Whichever version you feel comfy with using, please acquire. 1) (Required) The Norton Sampler, Short Essays for Composition, 10th Edition [ONLY], Cooley, Thomas, ISBN:9780393427639, Available through Amazon, Kindle, or other online rental options. If you picked up another book earlier from the store--the bookstore will exchange it for you. If ordering online--book must be ordered by the first week/proof of purchase check in second week. The third week the latest for arrival. No sharing! We use it for first paper and finals. If you rent…you must have it until December and take good notes if you have plans to return it before finals. Please check if you get a book stipend from Financial aid. I didn't learn about this until my second semester and any little bit helps. I use supplemental works to help keep your costs down. 2) (Recommended but optional for MLA) Hacker, Diane, any spiral MLA and Grammar handbook. 3) (Required) A midsize, college-ruled copybook to use as a journal (cover can be whatever you like, but must be large enough for prompts to fit together with writing on opposite page and have removable pages to turn in classwork). 4) (Required) Mini stapler and staples or box of paperclips (do not hand essays to me unfastened). I cannot tell you how handy these are! ALL your papers need staples! 5) (Required) Please have a #2 pencil and a ballpoint pen (we use these writing instruments in prompts and testing). Optional: Art pencils or markers for journals. You can go home and make it more creative if you desire. 6) (Required) A folder (anything you like) for Final Portfolio (last day) TBA.
Technical Requirements: This class is in-person on both days, T & R, so far, in B-wing 101, starting at 12:30, but be prepared to get supplemental materials on Blackboard Assignments and also BB Collaborate Ultra for conferences by appointment. Play around or watch videos about Turn-it in. You will be submitting through this systems and also to my email. If you are a student that likes extra help, please learn to navigate BB Collaborate Ultra and Zoom, usually found in Course Contents in sidebar. There will be times you will not reach me when I am teaching ALL of my writing classes and driving back from several locals. You can still get a free tutor and email lesson notes and explain them the lesson, until I can return your messages and try to assist you.
